This listing is for an antique hotel creamer made for the Hotel Leighton in Los Angeles, California. China from the Hotel Leighton rarely appears on the market. This particular Buffalo China mark on the base was used from 1915 into the 1940s.
The Hotel Leighton was designed by prominent architect John C. Austin and built by industrialist George A. Leighton in 1904. Originally featuring 104 rooms, the four-story brick hotel was beautifully situated opposite Westlake Park (later renamed MacArthur Park) at the corner of Sixth and Alvarado Streets. The hotel was well-known for its large, expansive grounds that included pergolas, a clock golf course, and tennis courts that frequently hosted Southern California Tennis Club tournaments during World War I. The Leighton remained a neighborhood staple until it ceased operating and vanished from hotel directories in the late 1940s.
This creamer measures 4 inches high and 4 inches from spout to handle.
This item is in fair-minus condition. There are no chips. While the inside is clean, with no scuffing or staining, there is discoloration on the rim and handle (see images). There is a crack at the base of the handle, but not at the top, and the handle remains firmly attached. There is some base wear present. Please see the pictures for more information and to help with your decision.
