This is an unusual vintage Cold Steel Kobun variation made in Seki, Japan during the 1990s.

Unlike the standard Kobun, which normally has a 5.5-inch blade, this example has an approximately 7-inch tanto blade.

The blade is marked:

Kobun
Made in Japan

The reverse side is marked COLD STEEL.

This knife came from old inventory formerly held by the Japanese trading company that handled Cold Steel exports at the time.

Other unusual Cold Steel knives have previously surfaced through the same source, including Imperial Tanto examples and unmarked factory samples.

This 7-inch Kobun does not appear in the regular Cold Steel catalogs known to us. It was most likely produced as a factory sample, pre-production sample, or uncatalogued variation.

However, no original documentation or sample tag is included, so its exact production status cannot be conclusively verified.

The knife has a full-length satin-finished tanto blade and a black Kraton rubber handle.

The blade steel is unknown.

The knife is unused and remains in mint condition.

The factory edge is intact.

There are no noticeable scratches, stains, or corrosion on the blade.

The Kraton handle remains in excellent condition with no stickiness, hardening, or deterioration.

The black Cordura sheath is also very clean, with no noticeable wear.

The sheath does not have a Cold Steel logo, but it is an older Japanese-made sheath of the type produced in Seki during the same period.
