* The List-Magnetik FERROMASTER is a compact, hand-held instrument for easy measurement of the relative magnetic permeability of materials and workpieces, covering a measuring range of µr 1.001 to 1.999. Relative permeability is measured simply by touching the workpiece with the sensor tip and reading the result on the LCD display, with calibration easily readjusted by the user. The probe head contains a small permanent magnet generating a constant magnetic field of approximately 35 kA/m (440 Gauss) at the test probe, which magnetizes the sample; two sensitive magnetic field sensors then read the distortion of the magnetic field introduced by the magnetized sample. The instrument works with a saturation core and two alternating field coils according to the fluxgate principle, and above the stated measuring range the saturation cores become too saturated to produce a linear measurement. The FERROMASTER is housed in a robust waterproof case rated to IP65 protection, making it well suited to applications in harsh environments, and the built-in battery provides approximately 50 hours of operation. It is widely used to verify whether stainless steels and other components meet low-permeability requirements, with note that the measured permeability value depends on the dimensions of small samples and device sensitivity is affected by sample thickness. The Ferromaster has been discontinued by the manufacturer and superseded by the FerroPro.
