Original 18th century German manorial charter on calf vellum, identified as a Heirats-Consens and Freilassbrief, marriage consent and manumission, from the Pflegamt Falkenberg in Bavaria.
> The document is issued by Stephan Kaben, recorded as Amtmann at the Pfleg Sitz Falkenberg, acting under baronial authority. The text grants freedom and lordly permission to marry. The working reading shows the names Maria Raiserin née Gwandtstuber and Junggeselle Gottlieb, described in the formula as free born, honest and industrious, with consent for Christian marriage after payment of fees.
> Script and material: Handwritten in iron gall ink in 18th century Deutsche Kurrentschrift, old German cursive, with large Fraktur initial heading beginning Wir Stephan Kaben am Hanns Haus... Pfleg Sitz Falkenberg... Language is German, Early New High German chancery formula, Kanzleideutsch. Dated in text ... Tag Martij im ... Jahr, a day in March in the 1700s.
> Seal and housing: Large pendant red wax armorial seal, 5 cm diameter, approx 1.97 in, preserved in its original two piece lathe turned wooden Siegelkapsel, 7 cm diameter, approx 2.76 in, suspended on original vellum tags through the plica. Plica intact, wax with strong impression.
> Sheet size: 28 cm x 14.5 cm, approx 11.02 in x 5.71 in, single sheet vellum, small chancery letter format, the correct portable form for a subject to carry as proof of freedom to marry.
> Condition: Authentic antique, uncleaned and unflattened as found. Vellum with age cockling, original folds, tide lines, foxing and handling soil, ink strong and legible under raking light. Wax with surface soil and minor edge fritting, crest well preserved. Wooden capsule with age wear and patina. No restoration.
> Historical note: The Pflegamt was the local seigneurial administration, later recorded as Rathaus, ehemaliges Pflegamt. This type of document predates the 1803 incorporation of Falkenberg into the Landgericht Eggenfelden and is sought for Bavarian administrative, genealogical and sphragistic research for families Raiser, Gwandtstuber and associated manor.
