Up now is this gloriously bizarre Phish Vegas Halloween 2016 Artist Edition concert poster by Ryan Besch of Your Cinema, created for Phish’s four-night October 28–31, 2016 run at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Besch designed the poster like the cover of a deranged ten-cent pulp-horror comic discovered in the gift shop of a long-demolished casino. The enormous PHISH lettering appears to melt across the top while a gigantic Vegas lounge creature rises from a hotel bed surrounded by amplifiers, microphones, guitars, eyeballs, dice, cryptids, Hoover Dam legends, questionable motel carpeting, and several excellent reasons to avoid sleeping in Nevada.

This is the exceptionally scarce Artist Edition, individually numbered #42/60. It is separate from the 1,200-copy First Edition sold during the run. With an edition only five percent the size of the show release, this is the premium version for serious Phish, Ryan Besch, Your Cinema, and contemporary concert-poster collectors.

The poster measures 18" x 24" and was screen printed on 100 lb. Cougar Natural stock. Its restrained navy, orange, red, white, gold, and brown palette gives the artwork an authentic vintage-comic and roadside-attraction aesthetic. It is hand-numbered “42/60” in the lower-right margin. This Artist Edition is numbered but not signed.

About the Artist: Ryan Besch is the illustrator and printmaker behind Your Cinema, a studio known for dense, hand-drawn concert posters that combine underground comics, vintage advertising, horror imagery, hot-rod graphics, and gloriously strange pop-culture debris. His work frequently rewards close inspection because every corner contains another joke, monster, musical reference, or deeply suspicious object. This 2016 Phish poster is quintessential Besch. It is loud, funny, slightly gross, beautifully printed, and impossible to absorb in a single glance.

About the Concert: Phish’s 2016 Halloween run at the MGM Grand culminated with the band performing David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars in its entirety as their Halloween musical costume. Bowie had died earlier that year, giving the performance an emotional significance beyond the band’s usual Halloween mischief. The four-night run also featured deep improvisation, altered lyrics, elaborate staging, and exactly the kind of beautiful Las Vegas weirdness depicted in Besch’s artwork. It was part concert run, part séance, part intergalactic cabaret, and entirely Phish.
