Helen Western Helen Western (1843-1868) was an American actress who debuted at age five as Eva in “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” With her better known sister Lucille, known as the Star Sisters, they toured in “Three Fast Men.” On her own she played internationally. She co-starred with boyfriend John Wilkes Booth in Richmond in 1859 and 1860, and in Portland in 1861 playing Juliet opposite his Romeo. Her photograph was found on Booth’s body at Garrett’s farm after he was killed for assassinating President Abraham Lincoln. In her obituary she was hailed as a “well-known star…popular once, but never a great actress.” |
