Carved from a single block of wood, the mask has the elongated leaf/almond-shaped face characteristic of the region, finished with a finely serrated rim. It features deep concentric oval eyes with incised spiral detailing, a long ridged nose running the length of the face to a beak-like point, and a hanging hole at the top ready for display. The rich reddish-brown tone and worn surface give it a warm, aged patina.

The Sepik River region of northern PNG is home to one of the world's great wood-carving traditions, and this piece echoes that distinctive style beautifully. A mid-to-late 20th-century decorative/tourist carving — made for display rather than ceremonial use — it makes bold, characterful wall art.
