Original WWII Japanese Army battalion commander grade officer’s dress sword belt.
This is the formal uniform sword belt type with black leather facing and distinctive red felt backing. The red-backed version was used for higher-ranking officers and is considerably less common than the standard officer belt.
The front is fitted with an ornate brass-colored round buckle featuring a rising sun design. The surrounding ring has decorative scrollwork.
The belt is constructed from black leather over red felt, with red stitching along the edges. It retains the original adjustment holes, brass-colored fittings, suspension hardware, and rear connecting ring.
The leather remains flexible and is not dried out or hardened.
The belt measures approximately 86 cm / 33.9 in around the waist when adjusted close to its maximum size, as shown in the photographs.
Condition
The leather remains supple and structurally sound.
There are surface creases, light scuffs, and age-related wear to the black leather.
The brass-colored buckle and fittings show patina, discoloration, and some verdigris.
The red felt backing retains strong color.
There are several small tears, moth holes, and worn areas in the red felt backing.
Some stitching shows age and wear, but the belt remains assembled and functional for display.
