A beautifully hand-painted porcelain brooch pendant featuring a peaceful mountain landscape in soft sepia, cream and warm earthy tones. The miniature scene shows rugged mountain forms surrounding a pale winding valley beneath a softly illuminated sky.
The oval porcelain plaque is mounted in an ornate gold-tone openwork frame. This type of ready-made jewellery setting was commonly used by china painters and craft artists to mount their finished porcelain plaques, turning small decorative paintings into brooches and pendants. The piece has both a brooch fitting and a pendant loop, giving it a dual-purpose design.
The restrained colour palette gives the painting a softly aged, almost watercolour-like quality, while the layered brushwork creates depth through the mountain ridges and central valley. The scene has a calm, contemplative feel and carries the symbolic qualities often associated with mountain imagery, including strength, endurance, stillness and personal journeys.
The piece is in very nice condition. There is minor wear to the gold-tone frame, which is mainly visible in the close-up photographs. A small amount of yellow adhesive residue remains in the centre of the reverse, with most of it having already been removed. It measures 5 cm x 4 cm (1.97 x 1.57 inches).
