This is the premium giclée edition of 75, not the smaller and more common screenprinted edition of 200. Sangaruda was produced as an eleven-color screen with a split-fountain sunset layer on heavy Cougar Natural White paper. Eads filled the composition with a floating island city, cascading turquoise waterfalls, bridges, observatories, strange vegetation, an eclipsed sun, and architecture that looks as though gravity politely excused itself from the conversation.
The saturated pink, violet, yellow, turquoise, and deep plum palette gives the entire scene an otherworldly glow. Decorative birds, curling clouds, celestial imagery, and an ornate fantasy frame surround the city, while the hand-deckled paper edges give the piece a beautifully tactile, handmade presentation.
This example is hand signed by James R. Eads and numbered #5/75, giving it an especially desirable single-digit edition number.
Also included is the original matching four-color screenprinted Certificate of Authenticity and poem, printed on deckled-edge Stonehenge paper. The certificate is signed by Eads, identifies this example as Print No. 5/75, and contains the complete mythology behind Sangaruda and its inhabitants.
Condition: Mint. The print has never been framed and has been stored flat in archival conditions within our climate-controlled print collection. The colors remain exceptionally vibrant, the deckled edges are beautiful, and the accompanying screenprinted Certificate of Authenticity is included. About the Artist: James R. Eads is a Los Angeles-born multidisciplinary artist whose work blends printmaking, painting, graphic design, psychedelic illustration, mythology, and dream logic. After studying art in New York, Eads returned to Los Angeles and began creating concert posters for artists including Phish, Dave Matthews Band, Foo Fighters, and Jerry Garcia. He later expanded into tarot and divination through Prisma Visions, virtual-reality art, and interactive projects. His work consistently feels like a map to someplace that probably does not exist, but somehow still feels familiar.
About the Project: Sangaruda is a legendary island city Eads imagined as existing somewhere beyond ordinary time. According to the accompanying story, the city was named after a great bird king and was built around a source of energy made from light and water. That source powered immense waterfalls, observatories, libraries, and a civilization devoted to knowledge, kindness, and harmony with nature. Naturally, all that utopian technology eventually started screwing with the timeline. The city began slipping between realities, leaving pieces of itself behind until Sangaruda disappeared into legend. The eleven-color giclée was the more ambitious of two editions released by Eads. The alternate version was a smaller 16" x 20" screen print edition of 200, while this premium giclée edition was limited to only 75 and included the elaborate matching Certificate of Authenticity.
