Up for sale is an incredibly collectible, authentic 1968 true monophonic first pressing of Steppenwolf’s self-titled debut album (ABC Dunhill Records, D-50029). This rare, dedicated mono mix is highly sought after by audiophiles for its punchy, distinct sound profile. The record features the iconic 1968 East Coast black label with the conjoined rainbow box at the top. Most importantly, the deadwax features the stamped "Bell Sound" logo and the hand-etched "sf" signature, proving this copy was mastered directly by legendary 1960s audio engineer Sam Feldman at Bell Sound Studios. The full matrix details are perfectly legible: Side A: D50029-A4 sf LW Bell Sound and Side B: D50029-B1 sf LW Bell Sound, confirming original metal work processing by the Longwear Plating Company.
The physical vinyl is conservatively graded at a strong VG to VG+ with a brilliant original gloss and great shine. While it shows some light surface scuffs, it has been fully play-tested and delivers flawless, powerful playback with no skips or overwhelming surface noise. The original silver foil jacket is in solid VG condition, displaying some typical vintage ring wear on its reflective surface. It also features a clean, circular promotional/cut-out punch hole in the bottom left corner, which was standard for original 1968 distributor overstock. This is an exceptional, documented player copy of a psych-rock masterpiece, meticulously mastered at one of the finest studio rooms of the era.
