Ichikawa Toru is a promising artist who is expected to carry the future of Bizen ware, infusing vibrant colors into the traditional Bizen ware.
His creative process begins with handling the Bizen clay from its raw state, preparing the clay himself.
No matter how much time and effort it takes, his yearning for "beauty" is uncompromising, and that feeling is etched into the clay.
The results of his dedicated research have borne fruit, and he has succeeded in infusing the high-quality Bizen clay with uniquely blended minerals and metal oxides, creating the colors seen in this piece.
"Liberalism," as exemplified by this work, is a central theme in his creative activities and is also the title of his solo exhibition.
He constantly yearns for freedom and expresses a "cry of the soul" that pursues love and self-identity through the material of clay.
