Description

An absolutely charming antique children’s porcelain cup featuring one of the sweetest pug puppy scenes I’ve come across.

This diminutive cup measures approximately 2 1/2 inches tall by 2 1/2 inches in diameter and is decorated with an endearing wraparound scene titled “The Nursery.” The illustration depicts five playful pug puppies gathered around a soft blue blanket, with two puppies peeking from a wicker dog bed while the others tug and play together. The artist captured the expressive faces and curled tails that make pugs so beloved.

Although unmarked, the porcelain body, transfer decoration, and form are consistent with German manufacture dating to the late Victorian or Edwardian era (circa 1890–1910). Pieces with charming animal subjects like this were made for children but today are highly sought after by collectors of antique dog memorabilia and nursery ware.

Condition

Very good antique condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs noted. There is light age-related wear, a few tiny firing specks, and minor glaze imperfections consistent with over 100 years of age.
