This is a 16” x 20” print of a portrait made by Reagan White House photographer Michael Evans of Virginia Congressman Dan Daniel as part of his series of portraits of the “Movers and Shakers of Washington”, in the words of the New York Times, in the early 1980s. The series was exhibited at the Corcoran Museum of Art in Washington in January and February, 1985 and was published as a book, “People and Power: Portraits from the Federal Village”.

Rep. Dan Daniel had served as National Commander of the National Legion from 1956-57. He was elected as a Democrat to the 91st United States Congress and to nine succeeding congresses, serving from January 3, 1969, until his death from a heart attack in January 1988. He was a conservative Democrat, receiving a score of 89% from the American Conservative Union.

The image measures 12” x 16” with a large white border on four sides, making the outer dimensions of the photographic paper 16” x 20”. The print is not signed or stamped. The print is in excellent condition.

I am attaching two images of the “People and Power” book for reference only as the book is not included in this sale.

Please see my other listing of a Michael Evans portrait of Alan Fern, the Director of the National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, from the same series.
