Pair Antique Royal Doulton Edward VII 1902 Coronation Dinner Beakers Cups Green
Category
Description
A charming pair of antique 1902 Royal Doulton commemorative beakers marking the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. Transfer-printed in green on white earthenware, each beaker carries the paired crowned profile portraits of the King and Queen with the banner "June 1902," and on the reverse the entwined "E R" royal cipher within the inscription "The King's Coronation Dinner — Presented by His Majesty."
These commemorate a genuine piece of social history. Edward VII's Coronation Dinner for the People saw around 500,000 dinners served to poorer Londoners on 5 July 1902 across 800 locations, organised by Sir Thomas Lipton, with the King himself contributing toward the cost. Beakers like these were produced as keepsakes of the celebrations.
The "June 1902" date is a lovely detail in its own right: the coronation was originally set for June but postponed to August after the King fell seriously ill and needed emergency surgery — so these pieces carry the original planned date.
Confirmed Royal Doulton, with the maker's mark and registered design number to the base (see photos).
