Over the coming months, I'll be having a huge clear out of items gathered over many years. The contents of my shed, attic and storage spaces all have to go. Once they are gone, they are gone.

Offered here is a charming vintage studio pottery head, a wonderfully characterful ceramic sculpture that appears to be an amateur or independent studio pottery piece.

The expressive face, exaggerated features and hand-modelled finish give the piece tremendous personality. Rather than aiming for perfection, the sculptor has created something full of individuality and charm, making it an eye-catching decorative object that would sit equally well in a studio, bookcase, or alongside a collection of studio ceramics or folk art.

The pottery has been finished with a subtle glaze over a buff-coloured clay body, highlighting the modelling and texture of the hair and facial features.

The underside bears what appears to be the maker's signature. It is difficult to decipher, but the first name appears to read Richard. Please refer to the photographs and draw your own conclusions regarding the inscription.

There are the expected minor firing imperfections and variations associated with hand-made studio pottery, all of which contribute to its unique character and appeal.
