This is indeed a lovely tea set for six by Aynsley. Clearly marked to the base, with the pattern reference C 1817/1, I believe this backstamp was used around 1939.
It is decorated with very pretty pink and white roses against a duck egg blue ground.
The set consists of 21 pieces as follows:
1 x Cake Plate (tabbed) - Just over 10" x 9"
1 x Milk Jug - Around 4" to highest point at spout
1 x Sugar Bowl - 2.75" deep, 4.25" wide at rim
6 x Tea Cups - Just over 2.5" tall, 3 & 3/8£ wide at rim
6 x Saucers - 5 & 5/8" wide
6 x Tea/side Plates - 6.25" wide
Condition is just wonderful - no chips, cracks, repairs or crazing. The print is intact and colours are fresh. This is a really pretty, delicate pattern. The handles are blush pink with decorative gilding. Lovely band of gilding to the pedestal base.
All these pieces ring well and the gilding is in excellent condition, even at the handles.
I love the shape of the cake plate, with decorative tabs. The milk jug and sugar bowl are also beautifully shaped; I believe the shape name is Corset - if not it's very similar to Corset. I also love how the sugar bowl and cups have the decoration to the inside - a real sign of class!
