Fenton White Satin Glass Bicentennial Commemorative Plate — George Washington at Valley Forge, 1776-1976
In 1976, as America marked two hundred years of independence, Fenton Art Glass Company answered the moment with a series of commemorative plates cast in their signature white satin glass — a soft, matte finish achieved by acid-treating clear glass to a frosted, almost fabric-like texture. This plate captures Lafayette and Washington at Valley Forge where they formed a friendship that would last a lifetime.
The scene is bordered on the bottom, with the words "Lafayette with Washington at Valley Forge" — a fitting pair to mark the country's 200th birthday. Fenton's mark is pressed into the glass on the reverse along with a short history, shown in the second photo, confirming its maker.
Nearly fifty years on, this plate remains in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, or stains — a fine piece of American glassmaking history and bicentennial memorabilia alike.
