Up for sale is an authentic, 100% original World War II era photograph featuring two Soviet RKKA (Red Army) soldiers posing arm in arm with local young women in a photo studio setup. This exceptional group portrait showcases great ethnographic and military details, including winter coats, traditional fur muffs held by the women, and both types of Soviet winter headgear: a classic Budenovka hat on the right and a newly introduced Ushanka hat on the center soldier.
Taken in Latvia between June 1940 and June 1941, it captures a very brief historical window after the Soviet entry into the Baltic states but before the German Nazi invasion. Highly sought after by collectors due to being printed by a local Latvian studio on premium European photo paper with a scalloped edge.
The reverse has the original pre-war Latvian "Fotokartiņa" print with old album paper and bone glue. Collectors note: you can safely soak it in lukewarm water for a few minutes to clean the back with no damage.
