One of the original important series of correspondence (1813-1814) on terms of peace sought in the negotiatons to end the war of 1812. Includes the stipulation that Great Britain must return the freed slaves that they harbored as part of the war. In the end, the United States was simply compensated for these slaves. Important document leading up to the Treat of Ghent that officially ended the war. Light toning and wear to edges. This copy removed from a larger volume as evidenced at spine.
