Welcome to the sale of this splendidly kitsch sixties print. 

This original sixties print is titled Miss Wong after the original painted in the fifties by Russian born artist Vladimir Tretchikoff. The portrait depicts a young Chinese woman in traditional Eastern silks, celebrated for its sultry expression and Tretchikoff’s signature use of bold, luminous colours. The model for the painting was a young woman named Valerie. Tretchikoff famously approached her on a street near Camps Bay in Cape Town, South Africa, in the early 1950s to ask her to pose. Heavily inspired by his years living in the Far East and Manchuria, the painting reflects Tretchikoff's fascination with cultural beauty and mid-20th-century Asian aesthetics. Alongside his other famous work, Chinese Girl (often called The Green Lady), Miss Wong was reproduced hundreds of thousands of times. The inexpensive prints were ubiquitous in living rooms throughout the 1950s and 1960s, turning Tretchikoff into one of the most successful commercial artists of his era. This example has great retro appeal and comes in its original wooden frame. 

In good condition commensurate with its age and use. There are some water marks in places and wear to the frame, this is reflected in the price. Please have a good look at the photographs as they form part of the description and contact me if you have any further questions.

 I offer free delivery on many of our items, however delivery shown is for the UK mainland only. There will be a surcharge for some addresses in Northern Ireland, the Isle of Wight, the Isle of Man, the Scilly Isles and the Highlands and islands of Scotland. You are more than welcome to collect or I can deliver locally if needed.
