Century. - Sheet dimensions: approx. 23x35.5cm. -- well preserved. || Alessandro Specchio (1666-1729) was an Italian architect, draftsman and engraver. He was a student of Carlo Fontana (1638-1714). The most important building that Specchi built in Rome between 1703 and 1705 was the harbor on the Ripetta. Nothing has been preserved from this major work, as it was written at the beginning of the 20th century. It was demolished in the 19th century as part of the fortification of the Tiber bank. The Ara Pacis Museum now stands in its place. In 1711 Specchio was admitted to the Accademia di San Luca. From 1714 to 1728 he built his masterpiece for Livio De Caroli: the Palazzo De Carolis on Via del Corso. His other works include the Palazzo Pichini-Gallo in Piazza Farnese, the De Carolis Fountain in Frosinone and the first renovation of the Scuderie del Quirinale.
