Up for purchase is a spectacular piece of transportation and numismatic history: an original vintage 2003 Token and Medal Society (TAMS) 43rd Annual Assembly Commemorative Medal, celebrating their convention meeting in Baltimore, Maryland.
This heavy, gold-toned medal was beautifully struck in limited numbers for attending club members, paying homage to Baltimore's crowning legacy as the true origin point of American commercial rail travel.
Design Details:
- Obverse: Features the signature, high-relief official seal of the Token and Medal Society, showing a pair of muscular blacksmiths working over a shop anvil. It bears the text "TOKEN AND MEDAL SOCIETY", "EXONUMISTS", and their establishment date: "ORGANIZED NOV. 19, 1960".
- Reverse: Commemorates the 175th Anniversary (1828–2003) of the historic B&O Railroad. It shows a stunning relief engraving of a vintage early steam locomotive on tracks alongside an early horse-drawn rail carriage. Text reads: "BIRTHPLACE OF THE RAILROAD / BALTIMORE" and "TAMS 43rd ANNUAL ASSEMBLY - 2003 / 1828-2003".
Condition Notes: This medal is in beautiful Gem Uncirculated / Proof-Like condition. It boasts highly reflective, mirror-like golden surfaces, sharp reeded edges, and flawlessly frosted high-relief details. It comes protected inside a clear vinyl collector's flip pocket.
