This was purchased in England when my friend moved and lived there for a few years. I am pretty sure it is authentical and old. It is a brass hearth fireplace trivet in a unusual half moon/crecent shape or demilune. A wonderful and unusual example in fine original condition, nice old original surface and patina. Very intricately designed. Haven't seen another like it on line...
These pieces were designed to be used in and around the hearth to whole pots and kettles. They were also used in the parlors to hold the tea or water kettles.
