This listing features an antique 10-5/8-inch try square manufactured by J. Burnett of Inverness, a quality woodworking layout tool used by carpenters, joiners, cabinetmakers, and pattern makers. Try squares have been indispensable hand tools for centuries, allowing craftsmen to accurately mark, check, and maintain precise 90-degree angles during woodworking and construction projects.

Used throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, try squares were essential for laying out joinery, checking the squareness of boards and assemblies, and ensuring accuracy in furniture making, cabinetry, and architectural carpentry. Their simple yet precise design made them one of the most relied-upon measuring and layout tools in any workshop.

J. Burnett of Inverness produced well-regarded woodworking tools that remain desirable among collectors and traditional craftsmen. Antique try squares from historic British makers are appreciated for their craftsmanship, historical significance, and continued usefulness in hand tool woodworking.

Overall in pretty good shape with expected wear. The brass has some tarnish and the wood is worn but you can see the three stamp marks. No markings on the blade.
