The selected design of the ornament, the Native Sunburst and the Star, are symbols of the Shoshone. The Native Sunburst ornament features the coin's obverse with Sacagawea and her infant son. The Star ornament features the reverse of the of the coin with the soaring Eagle. The hanging ribbon is blue, the most favored color of the Shoshone tribe. The metal used for the ornament is trade silver, used extensively from late 1700's to the early 1800's in trade with the Native Americans.
