This is a working Reform 5000 electro-mechanical remontoir clock movement in a Bakelite case with a screw on top. The clear acrylic top has an adjustment hand to adjust the escapement and thus the time keeping. This clear acrylic top is quite thin and yellowed. The movement (electro) is driven by a 4.5volt battery which is connected to the two brass pins protruding from the base. This drives a small spring and finally a jeweled escapement (mechanical). The front is threaded with a left hand thread which is used to attach it to a clock. The left hand thread has a brass nut attached which is used to attach it to the clock case. The clock hands, shown, are driven by the brass pipes which protrude from the front of the threaded case attachment.

 

The center pipe work for holding the minute hand is squared, for positioning, and threaded to take the clock hand nut. The minute hand is fitted with a compatible squared collet. The domed clock hand nut can be seen in the photograph.

 

This 15 jeweled movement was probably made in the 1950s. A 4.5volt battery can still be purchased or use three 1.5volts. This is a more advanced movement by Schild and was frequently used by other manufacturers.  

 

The movement was made by Schild & Co in Chaux-de-fond, Switzerland. No.1192010.

Vintage clocks from the 1920's to the 1960'S, with their original movements, were made to the highest quality of engineering and we try to keep them true to their period.
