An original 1856 hand-colored steel-engraved map of the Var département from Victor Levasseur's Atlas National Illustré. The map is surrounded by an elaborate decorative border with vignettes depicting portraits of Jean-Baptiste Massillon (bishop and preacher) and Paul Barras (French Revolutionary politician), Mediterranean produce including lemons, olive oil, honey, and seafood, as well as cork, rope, paper production, and coastal scenery with palm trees and sailing vessels. District boundaries are highlighted in original hand-color.

Condition: Good antique condition. Strong impression. The hand-coloring remains clear. Original horizontal center fold from the atlas binding. Minor handling and toning/foxing consistent with age. No tears. Ready for framing.
