Vintage Copper Ashtray Dish Richard Mead Southern Rhodesia 1943 Penny Coin Signed

Description:

Vintage hand-beaten solid copper ashtray / pin dish, made in Southern Rhodesia and signed by the Rhodesian coppersmith Richard Mead. The dish has a square/diamond form with two folded rests, and a genuine 1943 Southern Rhodesia "One Penny" coin (George VI) set into the centre as a medallion.

The base is signed "Richard Mead" in script and stamped "MADE IN S. RHODESIA," dating the piece to the pre-1964 Southern Rhodesia era. A characterful example of mid-20th-century African copperware and a nice colonial-era collectible.
