Monmouth Pottery - sometimes known as Western Stoneware - in Monmouth IL made primarily stoneware crocks, jugs, etc., beginning about 1892.  From 1926 to 1946, they made art pottery vases, flower pots, etc.

This vase, like much of their art pottery, has a very interesting art deco shape and a glossy drip glaze similar to that used at Muncie, Pittsville, and Boys Town.  The 4 triangular openings near the top rim are much like the ones they used on their strawberry pots and makes this a good piece for flower arranging. It weighs about 1-1/2 pounds so could definitely hold an arrangement.

With a rich golden tan background color and a dark brown drip glaze from the top, it is about 8 inches tall and 5 inches across at its widest point at the top.  It curves slightly from the bottom to the top.  The main opening at the top is about 2-1/2 inches in diameter.  The rectangular base is about 3-1/8 inches by 2-5/8 inches and tilts up slightly on one side, adding to the art deco look.

It is in very good vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing - and ready to use or display.
