Ceramic Arts Studio (Madison WI 1940-55) is well-known for its beautifully designed & decorated figurines of people & animals. This tall slim figurine made in their last year of production - 1955 - from their "Religious" series of figures from the Bible is called "Isaac". He was available in satin white and sandstone or pink satin glaze, sometimes with a flesh-toned face.
He is about 10 inches tall, 3-3/4 inches wide, and 2-1/4 inches front to back. The bottom of his long robe is about 2-3/4 inches across. While he isn't as colorful as most of the whimsical hand-decorated CAS pieces, the same detail in the off-white cream color often described as satin white and the design of the piece is evident in his face and clothing.
He has the ink-stamped mark on the bottom "Ceramic Arts Studio Madison Wis (c) #464 ISAAC". An example of "Isaac" can be seen on page 159 of the 2003 Schiffer book "Ceramic Arts Studio The Legacy of Betty Harrington" by Donald-Brian Johnson, Timothy J. Holthaus, and James E. Petzold.
From my own collection, he is in very good vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing.
Ships USPS.
