1983 Volkswagen Vanagon GL — final year of the legendary air-cooled engine before VW went water-cooled.
Transmission oil just flushed, refilled with Redline MT-90 + Liqui-Moly
Gear Oil Additive. Engine oil just flushed, refilled with full-synthetic
10W-40 + ZDDP. Master cyl/brakes flushed all four corners with ATE 200
DOT4 brake fluid. New LED headlights with integrated turn signals. New
NGK (the proper ones) spark plugs. Hydraulic lifter lash adjusted. New
fuel line and filter. New'ish front brake calipers (ATE gold) with new
solid lines to calipers. All four (x4) tires were new last year. Less than 1k miles of use.
7-seater classic adventure van with the look and soul of a VW Bus and the safety and drive-ability of a more modern vehicle.
Simple, mechanical, and easy to work on — almost everything can be serviced with basic hand tools.
This van runs beautifully and has a strong maintenance history with
thoughtful upgrades. It drives great on the highway and around town,
starts easily, and feels tight and solid.
Passed emissions and is currently registered in Boulder County with a clean Colorado title.
Seats 6+driver comfortably, all with modern seat belts, and has
exceptional cargo capacity. With the rear seats folded, it can haul
nearly as much as a small box truck — bikes, skis, camping gear,
furniture, or work equipment.
Ideal as a daily driver, family road-trip vehicle, ski shuttle, or stealth camper build. Perfect for an unusual school or church mini-bus!
Many have asked why I'm selling this, I took it in partial trade for a Merc diesel I had for sale late last year. I'm a motorcycle and Mercedes diesel mechanic, not into VW's (though I have worked on many over the 40+ years I've been a mechanic), thought for sure some college kid would want it in the spring to take to Cali after graduation. I ended up in Thailand during that time, so I probably missed that window. Anyway, selling it because it has sat here on the property since it was traded, I have no need or want for it and know someone out there would love to have a cool, old VW van.
*Remember, this is 40+ years old, so there are the classic are-related issues, plastic/rubber dried here and there, missing one of the rear dome lights ($14/ea online), Visors have been replaced with some universal things, clear coat is peeling, but overall, certainly for its age, it's in good condition and no salt damage or rust on chassis (see pics, ask if you want more from underneath or certain areas).
Video links of Vanagon sent upon request. Also, glad to take pics of specific parts of vehicle for interested buyers.
**Highly encourage those interested to come view/drive before bidding on this Vanagon.
