The roots of Quimper pottery go back as far as 1778 in Quimperlé, France later in 1789 the factory moved to Quimper where it continued operation for more than two centuries. Over the years the company produced multiple patterns, shapes and designs with numerous marks for identifying the time period of production. The markings visible on the bottom of this either spoon rest or ashtray date the piece to most likely the 1980’s, early 1990’s after HB took over the company.  I am unsure what this shape is actually classified as in the catalogs, I am sure those collecting Quimper well actually know.

The outside is decorated in a simple folksy appearance with a gentleman dressed in country attire adorning the inside of the bowl. The bottom is well marked with the standard Quimper logo but has no form or design number noted. The dish measures just under 4 1/4” long, 3” wide at the bowl and 1” tall one lying flat. In very good condition with the only flaw, as pictured, a tiny glaze fleck at the end of the handle.  I see no issues with the decoration or any missing paint to speak of other than the aforementioned nibble. For those collecting this line of pottery, this piece is ready for display and use. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description. Note: this is one of two matching pieces, each sold separately at auction without reserve.

Please check back to my listings often as I will be posting numerous fine examples of glass, pottery and porcelain in the near future.

Thank you.
