This listing is for one vintage Harvest Inn Tomato Catsup glass bottle featuring its original paper label. It was produced by the Marshall Canning Company out of Marshalltown, Iowa. Marshall Canning was a major Midwestern food processor that operated under the umbrella of the Western Grocer Company, which was the largest grocery distributor between Chicago and Denver in the first half of the 20th century. At its zenith in the 1930s and 1940s, Marshall Canning ran approximately a dozen regional plants and employed up to 2,500 workers during peak summer harvest seasons, producing a wide variety of household commodities. In 1944, Western Grocer became a division of Consolidated Grocers Corp., and the Marshalltown packaging operations were eventually eliminated by 1952. This appears to be the first example of this specific catsup bottle having come up for sale.
This bottle measures 9 3/4 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches at the base.
This is a previously owned item in good overall condition. The glass bottle has no chips or cracks, though there is some old paint on the lip and neck. The bottle is dirty and will likely need a cleaning. This bottle is part of a small collection of vintage catsup bottles I purchased several years ago and will be listing. I have carefully cleaned the bottle one time, without touching the paper label. The original paper label is firmly attached but does show some loss and damage as shown.
