The MAVERICK, which was born in the late 1980s, took on its current style in the early 1990s. Released around the same time as the MIRAGE (now M-II) and HORIZON, its compact body shape, 628mm scale length, and distinctive waist cut have supported a part of ESP's history with their unique design.
Now, the MAVERICK is making a comeback, updated with the latest specifications to meet modern needs. The new MAVERICK uses black cherry wood for the body, a first for ESP's regular models.
It is characterized by its reddish-brown, distinct grain and is a wood with a moderate weight. In terms of sound, it has a tight bass and pleasant mid-highs that combine the characteristics of alder and maple, producing a tone that has presence even in a band ensemble.
The neck is made of highly rigid 3-piece hard maple, and the fingerboard is made of selected ebony. The scale length is 648mm, and in addition to the 27-fret specification, the use of extra-jumbo stainless steel frets provides a wide tonal range, smooth playability, and excellent durability.
Position markers feature MOP offset dots on the top and Luminlay phosphorescent material on the sides for superior visibility in low light, making it a practical instrument. The body is joined using a bolt-on method, and the joint area newly adopts an OVAL cut, an evolution of the ERGO cut.
This provides a consistent look with the backhand cut and waist cut, and the cut itself is kept to a minimum, improving playability, joint strength, and even sound. The bridge is equipped with a Floyd Rose tremolo, ensuring high tuning stability even during aggressive whammy bar use.
The pickups are Seymour Duncan, with a single-size humbucker SCR-1n Cool Rails in the neck position and a full-size humbucker TB-14 Custom 5 in the bridge position, providing a wide range of tones from clear clean tones to thick, high-gain sounds. The controls are simple yet practical, consisting of a master volume, master tone, and a 3-way lever pickup selector.
The master tone uses a switch pot, allowing for coil splitting by pulling up the knob. This allows for a wide range of sound shaping with just one guitar.
The compact body shape of the MAVERICK features 27 frets, a deep cutaway, an oval cut at the neck joint, and a back hand cut, significantly improving playability at the higher frets. It also features a Floyd Rose tremolo, making it perfectly suited for technical playing styles.
