Steve Howe and Chris Squire of YES are my favorite musicians and their influence is very much evident here. I have a Rickenbacker 4001 bass which I played on all the tracks but one. The best description I can come up with for my sound is Yes songs as if recorded by 'Weird Al' Yankovic or They Might Be Giants! Stange mix, I know.
This auction is for Steve Peters' PARADOX CD, which was recorded by me, Steve Peters; I sing and play all the instruments except drums on some tracks. It is the soundtrack CD for my RUNNER'S PARADOX comic book. It has 13 tracks and is about 52 minutes long.
The titles of the songs on the CD are the same as the titles of the chapters in the RUNNER'S PARADOX comic book. The mood and feel of the songs reflect the events that take place in its corresponding comic book chapter. It isn't necessary to read the comic to enjoy the songs on the CD, but if you get both it'll give you a unique multimedia experience!
Most of the tracks are in the progressive rock vein, especially Frantic, Paradox, Friend, and Savior, which is a suite in 3 parts. Like prog rockers, I like to explore other musical styles as well, like I'm Not Sorry, which sounds a bit like a They Might Be Giants song; Rejection, which is a tongue-in-cheek '80's hair-metal-type song; Nirvana, a grunge song I wrote years ago on the day I found out Kurt Cobain committed suicide; Render Unto Caesar, which is a classical guitar-like piece that I put a Leslie-speaker effect on, making it sound like Steve Hackett's Horizons from Genesis' Foxtrot album.
Here is a breakdown of the musical style of each song:
FRANTIC: A progressively intricate tune about trying to break free from one's demons of fear, insecurity, and lack of self-esteem
MUSE: A delicate acoustic piece, and an ode to the Muse of creativity
I'M NOT SORRY: A snappy pop song about not regretting telling a girl I had a crush on her, even though the result was not what I expected
RENDER UNTO CAESAR: A short acoustic guitar instrumental in memory of my family dog, Caesar
REJECTION: A tongue-in-cheek hair-metal song about not being able to get satisfaction
PARADOX: A spaced-out progressive mini-epic; a manisfesto for what I'm all about musically and spiritually
FRIEND: Another song about the family dog, Caesar, whose passing had a big impact on me and is an important thread of the story in Runner's Paradox; this song is done in a bit of a country-western type style
SAVIOR: Made up of three parts: the acoustic Supplication, the bluesy romp Devotion, and the spiraling Ascension; this is a song about some saviors I've met who just happened to be there when I needed them, and how I hope to emulate them
NIRVANA: A grungy epitaph to Generation X's fallen hero
FLIRT: A sexy, torchy song about one of my favorite pastimes
LEMONS: A bouncy retro-pop song about being positive in the face of adversity
MARILYN: A stately ode to Ms. Monroe
I GIVE UP: An upbeat pop song masking bittersweet lyrics about realizing I have to let go of a crush because it's clear nothing will ever happen, so it's time to move on
