The main Comicverse series is about a young man named Rei and his magical dragon brother Ying, who run a comic book shop in a space mall, written by Bianca Alu-Marr and co-plotted and drawn by Steve Peters. Comicverse: Subspace Chatter is a spinoff series in which those characters do a podcast about comics and sci-fi TV shows and movies. Ying's magical powers have a tendency to sometimes cause the events of the episodes being discussed to happen to them in real life!

Over the course of its three issues so far, the characters have done "spacecasts" covering subjects such as episodes of Star Trek: TNG, Star Trek: DS9, Space: 1999, The Last Jedi, the first appearance of Doctor Strange, Cerebus in Hell, comic book controversies involving Captain America, Wonder Woman, and Doctor Who, the Bill Sienkiewicz Art Challenge, and a visit to Alexander Siddig's Sid City Social Club.

Issue #1 tackled random comic book and sci-fi/fantasy subjects, but #2 and #3 had themes: #2 was called "Trek Vs. Wars" because all of the stories in it reviewed episodes of those two franchises, and we asked our readers which franchise was better, and #3, inspired by the pandemic, was called "Under Quarantine" and had the characters confined to recording their "spacecast" from their quarters.

While the "spacecast" scenes are done in Steve's cartoony, chibi-esque style, he illustrates scenes from the episodes that the characters are discussing in a more realistic, crosshatched style. He also enlists artist friends to draw these scenes; the most frequent contributors are Lee Thacker, Corey Bechelli, and James Banderas-Smith (formerly Windsor-Smith). The Bill Sienkiewicz Challenge features art not only by our three regular contributors, but also A.J. Casperite, David Branstetter, Matt Dow, Michael Anthony Carroll, Brian Payne, Brandon Spoons, and Jeff Peters. We also had a guest commentary on Strange Tales #110 written by Adam McGovern.

Eventually Subspace Chatter, like the main Comicverse series before it, evolved beyond the weekly gag format intended for it and became a full-fledged series in its own right. And at least once in every issue, cosmic forces cause the events of the sci-fi episodes the Comicverse characters are discussing to actually happen for real in their comic book shop!

The goal for the main Comicverse series is to collect all the comics in attractive, manga-sized paperback volumes that sit nicely in a row on a shelf. Subspace Chatter is the first of the four Comicverse series to receive that treatment. This new volume collects Subspace Chatter #1-3. It will also feature 48 pages of new material: two stories totaling 18 pages that have only appeared in the Oh, Comics! anthology, "Cheese Trek" (about the cheeses of Star Trek), and "Too Much Coffee Talk" (about a juried art show featuring homages to Too Much Coffee Man), and the never-before-published "Parallels", in which Rei and Ying review the Star Trek: TNG episode of the same name, and in which once again, the events become real for Ying.

Most of the stories from Subspace Chatter #1 have been "remastered" with new art from our regulars (Lee Thacker, Corey Bechelli, and James Banderas-Smith) -- originally, photos from the episodes were used to illustrate the scenes being discussed. It was not until issue #2 that Peters and Alu-Marr hit on the idea of having artist friends draw them instead. With the 48 pages of new material and the newly added artwork, all rolled into a new attractive format, this book is a must-have for all Comicverse fans, even those who have the original 3 issues.

The book also features a new Foreword written for the book by Jamar Nicholas, creator of Leon the Extraordinary!
