This auction is for 11 comics created by me, Steve Peters, that feature my half-angel, half-devil character Sparky. Many of them are jam comics with other independent comics creators. Here's what you get:
Chemistry was the winner of the 2006 Gene Day Memorial Prize, and is a fully self-contained, magical realist autobiographical story. It was drawn a panel-a-day over the course of a year, 356 panels in total. It features the first appearance of Sparky. As a free bonus, you get the Chemistry CD Soundtrack, 52 minutes of prog-pop music recorded by me.
The Origin of Sparky has a number of short comic stories, mostly jam comics. It features 4-page jam comic with Mr. Sim, who told me it's the VERY FIRST thing he began drawing after the completion of Cerebus #300!!! Other participants include: Carla Speed McNeil, Franco and Art Baltazar, The Brothers Fraim, Mike Manley, Shannon Wheeler, Zander Cannon, Matt Feazell, Patrick Atangan, Roberta Gregory, James Kochalka, Jamal Igle, Eric Battle, Donna Barr, Kyle Baker, Jimmy Gownley, Jamar Nicholas, Bob Burden, and many more.
Sparky In Love includes a number of jam comics as with its predecessor. Among the over 40 contributors to the book are Alex Robinson (Box Office Poison), Carla Speed McNeil (Finder), Matt Feazell (Cynicalman), Tony Consiglio, Mike Dawson, Jimmy Gownley, Jeff Nicholson, EJ Banes, Tim Kelly, David Mazure, Doug Slack, Pam Bliss, Wally Crane (Sheba), Suzanne Baumann, Joanne Mutch, Daniel Sponton, Jason Thompson, Erik Hodson, Jamar Nicholas, Jeff Parker, Bob Corby, Justin Madson, Andy Hartzell, Geoff Grogan, Paul Friedrich (Onion Head Monster), Kel M. Crum, Eric Wilmoth, Mike Manley, Stan Yan, Max Ink, and Sean Bieri. As is usually the case with jam comics, the stories take all kinds of wild twists and turns. One jam finds him in a coma, hallucinating that he’s a character in a twisted animated cartoon; another has him in love with a woman whose boyfriend is a jealous Frankenstein’s Monster (drawn, of course, by Supernatural Law’s Batton Lash); still another sees him rejected and depressed, taking a potion that turns him into a female Sparky (drawn by Mike Manley).
Straw Man #10 includes a 2-page Sparky jam, never published elsewhere, with panels drawn by Steve Peters, Matt Dembicki, Pam Bliss, Jim Anderson, Suzanne Baumann, Ben T. Steckler, Nick Jones, Bill Knapp, Eric Wilmoth, Clint Basinger, Ray Tomczak, Jonathon Riddle, E.J. Barnes, David Branstetter, Max Ink, Mike Kitchen, and Blair Kitchen. There is also a 1-page Sparky appearance in one of the Straw Man stories by Branstetter. It features work by Tom Scioli, Mike Kitchen, Richard Jenkins, Max Ink, Blair Kitchen, James Smith, Steve Peters, Brian Payne, & David Branstetter. Over 28 pages of completely never before seen material.
Awakening Masterpieces #2 is a series of sketch cards I've drawn over the years, many of them featuring Sparky.
Tails of Sparky #1 continues the theme from Origin of Sparky---more origin stories. The 1- to 4-page jams appearing in TAILS #1 are sometimes done with my friends and students; others were passed around at comic conventions, including SPACE, MOCCA, SPX, and Mid-Ohio Con. One was done online at ComicSpace.com. These jams include contributions by Dave Sim (Cerebus), Sergio Aragones (Groo), Tom Scioli (Godland), Greg Hyland (Lethargic Lad), Matt Dembicki (Mr.Big), Max Ink (Blink), Jay Hosler (Clan Apis), Dale Martin (Watusi), Jason Thompson (Dreamquest of Unknown Kadath), Bryan Kane, Lee Thacker (One For Sorrow), The Fraim Brothers (America Jr.), Wes Molebash (You'll Have That), Zander Cannon (Top 10), Paul Friedrich (Onion Head Monster), Matt Feazell (Cynicalman), Pam Bliss, Wally Crane (Sheba), Scott Berwanger (Anubis), Stan Yan (The Wang), and Bryan Glass (Mice Templar). The cover of the comic features nine Sparkys drawn by nine different artists---some of Peters' most frequent collaborators---Peters, Daniel Sponton, EJ Barnes, Lee Thacker, Eric Wilmoth, Max Ink, David Mack, James Kochalka, and Dave Sim.
Tails of Sparky #2.5 is two 24-hour comics combined into a super 48-hour comic. I had completed a 24-hour comic about Sparky which became Tails of Sparky #2, but I always felt the comic was incomplete, that there were scenes that I didn't have time or space to draw. Eventually, I hit on the idea of doing a second 24-hour comic and merging it with the first. At a 24-Hour comic event at Atomic Comics in Philadelphia, I followed through with that idea. In the new merged comic, now called TAILS OF SPARKY #2.5, the desperate Steve buys time to save his love interest, Anna, by traveling to the future and asking for help from a future version of himself, who is also in the process of creating another 24-hour comic. So Steve gains an extra 24-hour comic, but all-new perils present themselves and put Anna's life in even more danger...
Tails of Sparky #3 is another 24-hour comic, more meta this time because Sparky himself is drawing a 24-hour comic, and he starts jumping into the comics being drawn by the other artists at the 24-hour comic event in order to find (or swipe) inspiration. This comic is signed and numbered from an edition of 50 copies.
Tails of Sparky #4 is Part 1 of the 4 Seasons of Sparky. Sparky starts out a baby in a bubble, looking much like the Starchild from 2001: A Space Odyssey. There's references to Star Wars and Star Trek as starchild Sparky roams the galaxy. With pinup pages by Dave Sim, James Windsor-Smith, Oliver Simonsen, Brian Payne, Amanda Powers, and Lee Thacker.
Tails of Sparky #5 is Part 2 of the 4 Seasons of Sparky. Sparky is now a teenager, a cross between Bart Simpson and the Silver Surfer. What could go wrong? With a 9-page collaboration with Dave Sim and pinups by James Banderas-Smith, Oliver Simonsen, Brian Payne, Amanda Powers, Lee Thacker, and a short Harvey Comics-style story by Bianca Alu-Marr.
Tails of Sparky #6 is Part 3 of the 4 Seasons of Sparky. Sparky is an adult meditating on a mountaintop, sending his astral form out into the galaxy to correct the misdeeds of his youth. Featuring 2-page jam comics with Hans Rickheit and Daniel Sponton and pinups by James Banderas-Smith, Matt Dow, and a short Harvey Comics-style story by Bianca Alu-Marr.
