Underwood Ranches has a proud history of farming in Ventura County since 1867, growing lima beans, walnuts, lemons, tomatoes and pioneering the baby vegetable and specialty vegetable business. One of our pride and joys have been our chili peppers which are the heart and soul of sriracha. The ranch grew from 50 acres of production to 2,000 acres, fueling the growth of a new American condiment, manufactured by Huy Fong foods. Our peppers were the backbone of this new and highly popular sauce. This mutually beneficial relationship came apart after 28 years of a close working partnership. The conflict created uncertainty for our farm and the communities we support. In July 2019 a jury unanimously ruled in the ranches favor and July of 2021 the verdict was upheld. Through the turmoil we persevered and dedicated ourselves to creating a sauce with a vibrant blend of heat and flavor, founded on the chilies from our land. Each bottle of sriracha represents to us the perseverance and dedication, spirit of our farm and community. It’s a symbol of resilience. Thanks for being a part of our journey.
