Rust and Rot ~ Purveyors of wonderful things.
Welcome to the sale of this lovely old curling stone.
This antique curling stone would have originated from the island of Ailsa Craig just off of the Scottish coast. The granite there is still used to make curling stones and the granite of this one is thought to be a 'blue hone' type. This stone would date from the late Victorian period. It has a bronze handle monogrammed G.Mc.A and comes with its original wooden handle and leather pad. The handle can be removed and the stone reversed as they have a fast and slow side. Most of these stones end up as door stops for folks who have a Scottish connection. To be fair I doubt we'll have the cold to use them frozen ponds anymore.
In good condition commensurate with its age and use. The wood of the handle has a split, but is stable. Please have a good look at the photographs as they form part of the description and contact me if you have any further questions.
The stone measures (in cm) 13 tall by 26 wide and deep. It weighs 17kg
