Rust and Rot ~ Purveyors of wonderful things.

Welcome to the sale of this fantastic wooden horse.

Dating from approx. 1880 this wooden horse was hand carved from ash. The carving has been beautifully done with good attention to detail and nice expression. It's hard to say exactly what the horse was made for, it was certainly made for a child but beyond that I am unsure. It doesn't appear to have been a rocking horse and has a hole with iron brackets through the middle that no doubt fixed it to something. The hole is at an angle so I doubt a carousel, but who knows, maybe a merry go round? I have made a stand to display the horse from oak, with a slab base and oak pole with supporting bracket. This doesn't modify the horse in anyway and is quickly removed. I have left the oak untreated so that it can be stained, waxed or varnished as you require. All in all a beautiful decorative piece of Victorian folk art that is ready to display if you have the right space.

In good condition commensurate with its age and use. Please have a good look at the photographs as they form part of the description and contact me if you have any further questions.

The horse measures (in cm)  80 tall (95 inc stand), 95 wide and 20 deep.
