Description:
Original Russian linocut (hand-pulled relief print) depicting the churches and monastery of Izborsk, an ancient fortress town in the Pskov region of north-west Russia. The scene shows onion-domed Orthodox churches with crosses, a bell tower, and timber houses set among densely worked trees beside a river — a finely detailed, high-contrast black-and-white composition typical of the Russian graphic-art tradition.
The print is hand-signed and inscribed in pencil along the lower margin. The inscription reads (in Cyrillic): the title ending "…Изборскъ" (Izborsk) on the left; the artist's signature, which reads as "А. Шерышевъ" (A. Sheryshev), on the right; followed by "гравюра 1996 г" — meaning "engraving / print, 1996." A small artist's monogram "Ш" is also cut into the plate at the lower-right corner of the image, matching the signature.
Please note: the pencil signature is in cursive Cyrillic and is offered as read — I have not been able to confirm the exact artist against published records, so I'm describing it honestly rather than attributing it definitively. Collectors familiar with Russian printmaking are welcome to make their own assessment from the photos, which I've included in high resolution.
