A brightly coloured subshrub that can reach 60 cm (24 in) in height. The stem is woody at the base, with upright branching stems. All summer long the plant produces bunches of pink, blue or white fragrant flowers which attract bees and butterflies and is commonly used by beekeepers to produce a rich and aromatic honey. Due to its intensity, it is used moderately in cooking, also used to flavour the liqueur, Chartreuse. If kept clipped, it makes a good border or small hedge.
