This beautiful Fenton Art Glass tall basket is a stunning example of American decorative glassware, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship and artistic detail.
The piece features a highly elegant silhouette with a paneled, tapering body that sits upon a sturdy pedestal foot. The upper rim is dramatically flared and finished with a beautiful, wide ruffle. Arcing over the top is a spectacular, thick rope-twist handle that shows the artistry required in handmade glass.
The basket is crafted in a captivating aqua-teal glass treated with a brilliant iridescent carnival finish. This gives the surface a shimmering, pearlescent glow that dynamically shifts through shades of blue, and violet under the light. The basket is adorned with lovely hand-painted floral decorations, highlighting a prominent white and deep purple blossom surrounded by buds, trailing green leaves, and delicate blue sprigs.
Standing 27 centimeters tall, this piece is signed on the base George W. Fenton and carries the inscription indicating it was hand-painted by Cathy Maclay. Additionally, the piece still retains its original silver foil factory sticker, which remains partly attached to the upper side of the basket body.
The basket is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, or damage. The only sign of wear is some light, expected surface marks to the very underside of the foot where it has sat on a shelf over the years.
