A massive and ornate 1851 Catholic Holy Bible in German, translated from the Vulgate. It contains the Old Testament, New Testament and Apocrypha. It includes exquisite engravings that are examples of classical art by some of the world’s greatest artists. It also includes four family pages, with marriage and family history pages empty. It includes 12 entries on the birth and death pages, with earliest date of 1813 and latest date of 1872. All entries are from the Nipper and Gestorberr families, and the handwriting on these two pages is lovely. The death page has a hand illuminated header for the Nipper Family: “Famillie + Nipper.” The family pages have gorgeous copper engraved pictorial and decorative engravings.Published by very prestigious and much revered publishing house of Literarisch, this Holy Bible has Papal Approbation or Approval. The Pope in 1851 was Pope Pius IX (Pope from 1846-1878). This Catholic Holy Bible was prepared under the direction of the greatly esteemed Catholic Cleric and Scholar, Joseph Franz Allioli (1793-1873). Allioli was an influential and masterful Roman Catholic Theologian and Scholar of Ancient and Biblical languages who studied at the University of Landshut and later taught there as a professor. He later became Dean of the University of Augsburg, Germany.
