The Transfiguration Cathedral in Kryvyi Rih is an incredibly beautiful Ukrainian Baroque church.

Spaso-Preobrazhensky cathedral is a religious building in Kryvyi Rih, located on Sobornaya street. The cathedral began to be built in 1989. His style is Ukrainian baroque. It has 9 domes, and the height is about 50 meters. It serves as the center of the Kryvyi Rih diocese

This little painting is filled with love and good mood. It depicts the sights of the Ukrainian city of Krivoy Rog. I am an artist from Ukraine, currently living in the frontline city of Krivoy Rog.

I use high-quality oil paints, primed cardboard, and a palette knife. This painting measures 8 by 10 inches \ 19.5 by 25 cm, unframed, ready to hang. This is an original painting created by me (Tatiana Tarasenko) on June 7, 2026, in the impasto style.

The painting has a signature on the front and an author's certificate of authenticity on the back.

History

In 1989, parishioners of the Saviour's Ascension Church and residents of the city appealed to the chairman of the city executive committee with a request to provide them with a place for the construction of a new church, since the old one could not accommodate all parishioners.

On April 5, 1990, the consecration of the place for the church, which was proposed by the parishioners themselves, took place — on a hill where a picturesque landscape opens up. The architectural idea and project of the church was developed by the Kiev architect Alexander Petrosyuk.

Construction of the cathedral, built in the Ukrainian baroque style, began in 1989, with the blessing of the ruling bishop, Archbishop Varlaam, and lasted 12 years. The first liturgy was held in the Lower Church of the cathedral under construction in 1990. On July 15, 2003, Vladimir, Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine, consecrated the cathedral.

Architecture

The temple consists of two floors. At the first stage, services are held. In addition, there are icons with the relics of saints, including icons of the Savior martyr Barbara, St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, and St. George. The second floor contains three Altars: the Transfiguration of the Lord, the miraculous Turkovitsky icon of the mother of God. Of which the last two are the works of the Kryvyi Rih icon painter Sergey Yurchenko.

The cathedral has many icons with fragments of the relics of Saints.

On the territory of the church there is a large bell tower, which has 4 floors, 48 meters high. The bell tower itself occupies only the fourth floor, where 22 bells are located, and on the other three there is a choral room, a public library, and a youth Brotherhood. The largest bell weighs 1 ton 200 kilograms. Bells made of copper, non-ferrous metals and various additives to them (each of them has its own specific note) are cast at the foundry of Novovolynsk, in western Ukraine.

In addition, on the territory of the church there is a memorial stone cross, which was erected in honor of the 1020th anniversary of the baptism of Kievan Rus, and an administrative building.
