The President's Mystery is a 1936 American drama about a wealthy and cynical lawyer who becomes disillusioned with his corrupt life. Inspired by a newspaper contest suggested by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, he decides to fake his own death and start a new life under a different identity. He moves to a struggling small town and tries to use his skills to help the local economy, but his past soon catches up with him.
The film is an interesting Depression-era mix of drama, social commentary, and light mystery with a unique presidential connection.
It stars Henry Wilcoxon as the lawyer, Betty Furness, Sidney Blackmer, and Evelyn Brent.
