Original brown cloth binding with gold gilt profile of Sir Charles Bell on the front board, lettering on publishers logo on the spine. Original price clipped dust jacket. Minor knocks to corners of the boards and at the base and head of the spine. Stain on the edges of the long page edge, but only visible when the book is closed. Discolouration from the dustjacket is also present on the endpages. Small tears to the dustjacket, but these are purely cosmetic. Minor bend to spine, but again this is a non-structural issue.
Signed by the Gordon-Taylor (the author) and dedicated to “Professor R. D. [Robert Douglas] Lockhart” [1894–1987] who was an anatomist, Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgth and Curator of the Marischal Museum in Aberdeen. There are notes from a previous owner on the rear free endpage which give an insight into the history of this copy, as it contains the date and place of previous purchase in 1985. There is also ephemera of a list from a bookseller with this copy circled and highlighted. In 1985 this book cost £40, according to the BoE inflation calculator that would be £127.21 today!
