A very nice complete original little Improved style ground lip finished midget pint fruit jar.
Made for the Consolidated Fruit Jar Company , New Brunswick,New Jersey C. 1871 - 1908
Strongly embossed - TRADE MARKS over MASON'S [ CFJCo monogram ] IMPROVED
Base marks are hard to be sure of. C ? 87. or 37. A large smooth raised dot of glass interferes.
Correct original matching color glass insert. TRADE MARK MASON'S IMPROVED REGISTERED
MAY 23 1871 with CFJCo monogram center. Insert is a perfectly clean mint condition piece.
Correct original Consolidated Fruit Jar Company New York stamped zinc screw band completes the jar.
Stamped around the top edge. Worn from use so not all visible. Age darkened but clean and damage free.
Solid lightly aged zinc. Clean inside and out. No holes,cracks,splits or dents. Threads down easily and tight.
Does not seal the insert tightly on its own.The use of the top seal jar rubber brings it to a full tight seal.
Jar was blown in mold in an aqua colored glass. The mold used must have been cold first use of the day.
The entire surface of the jar is strongly whittle textured. A stand out little sparkler in a sun lit window.
The glass is still bright clean and clear with no staining from its use in canning. Great natural clarity.
A very lightly used and well kept jar in its time that shows in its excellent overall condition. No damage.
No cracks,chips,bruising or abrasions. Some scattered small fine surface wear scratches. Nice displaying jar.
Its ground lip and sealing area of the mouth is in great condition. A little extra mild lip edge flaking.
There is just the one small less than 1/4" smooth and very shallow sliver on the outer wall of the lip. Picture #15
A very nice overall example of this midget style MASON'S CFJCo IMPROVED with stand out glass character.
