In 1943, commanding midget submarine X7, Godfrey Place attacked the German battleship Tirpitz at anchor in North Norway. In tandem with Donald Cameron commanding the X6, the action successfully
disabling the Tirpitz for six months. Place, Cameron and the submarine crews were captured, both Place
and Cameron receiving the VC for their gallantry. The present book describes the wartime operation, and
is signed by Place to the flyleaf.
